Tasha Cobbs Leonard to feature Nicki Minaj on new album and the song will blow your mindJuly 24, 2017
Just when you thought you’d heard it all, a surprise comes out of nowhere to blow your mind. Award Winning Gospel Artist, Tasha Cobbs Leonard (formerly known as just Tasha Cobbs) is not only married now but her new album, set to release mid August, features the likes of William Murphy, Kierra Sheard, Ana Golden, Jim Cravity, and multi-platinum rapper, Nicki Minaj.
Right… it didn’t even sound right when you read it. We know. But it’s real.
The rap diva will be featured on Tasha’s single, “I’m Getting Ready”, which is predicted to be an explosive hit for the ‘Gospel Queen’. The most interesting factor with this record is that it’s not what you’d expect when you read the two names together. It’s not a Christian song embedded on a Hip Hop beat. It’s not a Trap song with Gospel lyrics. It’s not even a pop song. Surprisingly, it’s more of Worship song… and a powerful one at that.
While no one has heard Minaj’s verse on the song, a snippet of the song was released by Tasha Cobbs Leonard on her Instagram page. Take one listen and you will see why the world is impatiently awaiting this full project.
Cobbs-Leonard is known for her soul riveting Worship anthems such as “Break Every Chain”, “For Your Glory”, and “Fill Me Up”. A music leader in the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International, she has become a Gospel icon and a consistent fixture on the Gospel music charts.
The new project, “Heart. Passion. Pursuit.”, is projected to top all previous album chart numbers. Already peaking with two singles released on an early EP this week, “Name Of Our God”, is just the kind of teaser that millions of Gospel fans were waiting on.
There will be people who will object to this kind of collaboration but faithful followers of Cobbs-Leonard trust the pureness and the integrity of her ministry. Her followers are so engaged with her ministry that she almost has sort of a “Bey-Hive” behind her. It will be very difficult to oppose the record when millions feel God in it no matter who the feature is. Gospel is about spreading the good news. What’s a better way to spread the good news of Christ to the world than to use a messenger the world is very familiar with?
It’s not the first time a Gospel artist has teamed up with secular artist. Kirk Franklin teamed up with Salt of Salt -N- Pepa and the song, “Stomp” was a massive hit. As a matter of fact, it was one of the first Gospel records to crossover with such intensity. Missy Elliott has used The Clark Sisters. Coko has used Fantasia and Lil’ Mo. Byron Cage has used Anthony Hamilton. Fantasia has teamed up with Tye Tribbett.
In fairness, what may disturb many Gospel music lovers is the the usual content of Nicki Minaj’s records. Most times they are far from what Gospel Music fans would consider ‘pleasing to God.’ But unless we are God, how do we know what pleases Him? If God can make rocks cry out then surely he can cause a rapper to do the same.
