Sunni Patterson to host new spoken word TV Show, filming begins in New Orleans Sept. 28September 4, 2017
Just days after The Wright Brothers held an NYC Press Conference to announce their new media channel, Congo TV Network, support went viral for the possibility of opportunities for artists on a new entertainment platform.
“We are serious about the future of this company and we have no reason to think small,” said Gerald Wright, one of three founders of the Eagle View Media Company, which owns Congo. The network is already receiving submissions from independent filmmakers to feature their projects on the network. However, the real focus is on four new original projects that the Eagle View Media Company have pledged to produce. One of those projects is a Spoken Word broadcast entitled, The Golden Mic, which begins filming in New Orleans on September 28.
The Golden Mic, will feature the nation’s top Spoken Word Performers live in New Orleans, LA. Iconic Spoken Word Artist, Sunni Patterson, is slated to host the show. “Sunni Patterson is the First Lady of Spoken Word. It is an honor to have her commitment to not only this show but also to the future of our network,” said Ro Wright, who will also serve as Director for this project.
Ro says, The Golden Mic, will be different from previous Spoken Word showcases because of the filming location. “We do things differently in New Orleans. We are pulling out the Mardi Gras Indians, Brass Bands, Dancers, and some very important special guests. Beyond the lights and the glitter, what will make this show special is that it is being produced by poets. The poets themselves have embraced our concept and offered suggestions to make this show an authentic and energetic representation of their art,” said Ro, who has a deep connection to the Spoken Word arena on the national stage.
The show will embrace a First Class line-up filled with headliners from all over the country. “Poets everywhere respect Sunni Patterson. She was our choice from the conception of this show. Her impact on this artform is majestic,” explained Ro, “she has been a consistent breath in the life of this art for over two decades around the world and artists from all over are proud to support her in this effort. So are we.”
Already slated to appear on the show are Icons and Slam Champions who are staples in the Spoken Word Community including: Lamar Hill (Baltimore), Georgia Me (Atlanta), Sha’Condria “iCon” Sibley (New Orleans), Emerald Green (Chicago), Tess (Mobile), Ebony Stewart (Houston), Masterpiece (Dallas), Kyla Lacey (Orlando), Prince Akeem (New Orleans), K Love (Chicago), Louis Conphliction (St. Louis), Freequency (New Orleans), Dichotomy (Atlanta), Red Storm (Atlanta), Huggy Bear (Mobile), A Scribe Called Quess (New Orleans), Real Talk (Chicago), Ambrose Cavender (Denver), Abyss (Atlanta), and several others TBA.
One of the twists to this show is the energy and the flow of the show. Show creators are working hard to create an authenticate New Orleans atmosphere with staging and music. DJ Jubilee, known as King of New Orleans original Bounce Music, will serve as house DJ for every episode.
If you would like to attend a live taping of the show, tickets go on sale Friday, Sept. 8, 2017. The show will offer 4 slots for up and coming artists. If you feel you have what it takes to bless The Golden Mic, send your bio and performance links to: firstname.lastname@example.org .
