Ollie Mae Spearman Tyler is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is the current mayor of the City of Shreveport. Tyler obtained her Master of Education degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She completed forty-two graduate hours through SUS, LSUS, and Northwestern State University. In 1994, the Caddo Parish School Board named he Director of Middle Schools. She was later promoted to Deputy Superintendent. In 200, she became Deputy Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer for the New Orleans Public Schools where she served for three years. In 2003, she returned to Caddo Parish where the school board appointed her as superintendent. She served on Governor Kathleen Blanco’s 2004 education transition team and in 2007, she was named “Louisiana Superintendent of the Year.” She is a former interim Louisiana State Education Superintendent, serving from May 2011 to January 2012 between the offices of Paul Pastorek and John White. She has served as mayor since December 2014.
