Louisiana High School Bands battle at Southern University (Photos & Video)August 28, 2017
The top bands across South Louisiana met on the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA for the 2017 Louisiana High School Battle of the Bands. As the bands roared popular tunes from today’s hottest artists, fans and supporters packed the F.G. Clark Activity Center, better known as the “Mini Dome”, to cheer on their favorite band.
Participating High School Bands included Northwest High School (Opelousas), Plaquemine High School (Plaquemine), St. Augustine High School (New Orleans), Edna Karr High School (New Orleans), Northside High School (Lafayette), and Scottlandville High School (Baton Rouge).
New Orleans’ Radio Personality, “Downtown Leslie Brown”, hyped the crowd up and prepared the fans for a surprise appearance by the Southern University “Human Jukebox” Marching Band. The event was heavily sponsored by Cumulus Media, which owns the Power 102.9 radio station. Metro PCS was the presenting sponsor.
Scottlandville High School took the 1st Place prize. St. Augustine High School took 2nd Place and Northside High School took 3rd Place. Bands were judged in several categories but were also given a time limit. Bands that surpassed the time limit were deducted points. Several popular rappers appeared at the event as well.
